Dexter's tongue, vol. II

Dexter keeps potential intruders away using only his tongue.

Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Goodbody!

Scuba surprised us all by getting married this weekend to Amanda (pictured here with their son, Austin). It was a beautiful ceremony at a family friend's waterfront home in Hampstead.

Pictured below is the bird crap that narrowly missed my lap. Some consider it lucky to be pooped on by a bird (especially in the eye), but I consider myself lucky to make it through the day feces-free.

Wii hearts 3-bean salad

What do you get when you combine 1 1/2 lbs. of ground turkey, a bottle of Tiger Sauce, a couple of avocados and a zesty 3-bean salad? A delicious Friday night dinner. Add a bottle of red wine and you get Julie using her Wii remote as an elephant trunk to collect apples.

A few of my favorite things

Ernie has a few games he never gets tired of playing: tug-o'-war, chase me, find-and-eat-mom's-underwear. One of his all-time favorites, though, is a game he doesn't get to play that often. It's called "let me rest my manhood on your head." Not many are willing to play. Dexter, tolerant soul that he is, routinely takes one for the team. Despite his compromised position, he maintains a dignified expression.

Icky

I'm having that bad feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you just know the other shoe is about to drop and all you want to do is go home and crawl into bed. It's making for a long day.

Dog smiles

Ernie thinks he has just won the jackpot. Someone to chase him around the yard (besides Mom, who is slow and gets bored easily), someone else to take the blame for dog farts, someone who slobbers on him for a change? He just can't stop smiling.

Crazy mutha fudruckers

Ernie and Dexter had a serious play session yesterday. This usually consists of Ernie running around the yard and Dexter laying in ambush, charging Ernie as he races past. When they finally clash, it's like two gladiators meeting in the arena. It sounds horrible--my neighbors probably think I'm staging dog fights in the backyard. Yesterday, for whatever reason, Dexter was really into the chasing. Maybe it was the rain, maybe it was because it was Tuesday, or maybe, just maybe, it was the pair of underwear (now crotchless) that someone ate during the day.

Mystery solved

Ever wonder what dogs dream of? Dexter dreams of doggie lollipops.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor...

...shortage of lighter fluid will keep these mutha fudruckers from chowing down on some kabobs. After repeated attempts to get the (accelerant-free) charcoals lit, Julie and I relegated the task to the men, while we speared chicken, beef, and the occasional compliant onion in the safety of the kitchen. The dogs were on clean-up duty; unfortunately for them the floor remained food-free.

Dinner was, as you can see, delicious.

Clam Juice = delicious

Who knew? Certainly not me. Aided only by a postcard from Bonefish Grill and my amazing powers of serving-expansion calculation, Julie made some Saucy Shrimp for dinner on Friday (well, I did help chop the parsley--everyone's got a gift) and it was outta sight! In addition to a delicious dinner, I got to (finally) see her new place, which is pretty rad, and Monkey, who is also pretty rad. To top it off, we caught Raised on Radio at Kefi. Sweet.

And the livin' is easy

Big weekend for the dogs. Well, maybe not big, but fun. On Saturday I took the dogs around the "short loop" at Wrightsville Beach, then to Lagerhead's for a couple beers (for me, not the dogs) and some Robert's Famous Chicken Salad and Wheat Thins (again, for me). Dexter and Ernie are such a cute matched set, they get lots of compliments. Sunday was the first day of Ultimate Frisbee Spring League, and the boys got to meet lots of dogs at Castle Hayne Park. Everyone came away with all limbs intact and the boys fell asleep in a puppy pile in the backseat on the drive home, so we're calling it a success.

In my own little corner

Dexter has established himself on the couch; it being a warm day, he had little use for the pillow or quilt.

New Camera!

I bought a new camera yesterday to replace the old crappy one that I hate. It's taken some pretty decent pictures; I love this one of Ernie with his huge head and tiny feet. Dexter said getting his picture taken is old news.

And so it begins...

I was inspired to set up this blog to assure a friend that the dog she left in my care is alive and well, and also as a venue for the pictures I've been taking obsessively. Who knows where it'll go from there.
